What is a Smart Lock and Why is it Worth Investing in?
A smart door lock (Smart Lock) is an electronically controlled mechanism installed on the interior of the door or directly connected to a new lock cylinder. The device allows you to unlock and lock the door without using a traditional metal key. Depending on the selected model and configuration, access to the premises is gained through:
- Smartphone app (using Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Matter, Thread, Z-Wave or Zigbee wireless connectivity).
- Fingerprint reader (biometric fingerprint recognition – the fastest and most convenient way to open).
- Wireless numeric keypad (Keypad) – opening the door using an individual PIN code.
- RFID/NFC keychains and proximity cards.
- Smartwatch (e.g. Apple Watch, Garmin) or function Apple HomeKey.
- Auto-Unlock function – the lock automatically detects an approaching household member with a phone in their pocket and unlocks the latch.
Key Benefits for Property Owners:
- Complete keyless convenience: Forget about carrying heavy bunches of keys, searching for them at the bottom of your bag or risking slamming doors.
- Remote control from anywhere in the world: Whether you're at work, on the road, or on vacation, you can open the door for a courier, service technician, cleaning crew, or friend with just one click in the app.
- Automation of short-term rentals: Direct integration with Booking.com and Airbnb systems. Guests arriving from Chopin Airport receive a unique PIN code valid for the duration of their reservation.
- Full event log (Audit Trail): The app log records the exact date and time of each door opening and closing, indicating who entered the premises.
- Integration with Smart Home ecosystems: The locks are compatible with Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Fibaro, and Home Assistant systems. Locking the lock after leaving the house can automatically turn off lights, lower thermostat temperatures, and arm the alarm.

How does our team install a Smart Lock?
Properly installing a digital lock in a security or wooden door requires a combination of locksmith knowledge and networking and telecommunications skills. Do-it-yourself installation often results in jammed bolts, accelerated battery life, or damage to the original mortise lock.
Here's what a professional service performed by our specialists looks like, step by step:
1.Free consultation and joinery measurement: Step 1 – Audit and measurements.
A technician visits your property in Włochy (Stare Włochy, Okęcie, Raków). We precisely measure the existing lock cylinder (dimensions A and B in millimeters from the axis of the mounting screw). We check the condition of the mortise lock, multi-point lock, and door frame.
2.Fitting the anti-burglary insert: Step 2 – Selection of components.
We select a modular profile insert with a burglary certificate (Class 6/B) and anti-drilling and anti-bumping protection. The insert is equipped with a safety clutch and a properly matched driver or gear.
3.Non-invasive installation of the lock and code lock: Step 3 – Mechanical installation.
We remove the old cylinder and install a new, certified module. We install the smart lock head on the inside of the door. On the outside, we mount a wireless keypad or fingerprint reader – completely non-invasive to the door leaf.
4.Micrometric calibration of the bolt rotation: Step 4 – Tuning and calibration.
We perform automatic and manual calibration of the motor's endpoints. The lock precisely learns the latch release and bolt extension points. Correct operating clearance eliminates friction and extends battery life by up to 50%.
5.Wi-Fi and Smart Home Network Configuration: Step 5 – Digital Integration.
We install a communication bridge (Wi-Fi Bridge) in a network outlet. We connect the lock to the home internet using AES-256 encryption. We pair the lock with a smartphone app and smart home equipment (Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Matter).
6.Safety tests and operating instructions: Step 6 – Training and acceptance.
We conduct emergency opening tests (using a physical key and external power supply). We train users in PIN management, assigning virtual keys, and battery charging procedures.

Maintaining the door warranty:
All of our smart locks are installed non-invasively. We don't drill holes in the door leaf or frame. This means you don't void the manufacturer's warranty on your door (e.g., Gerda, Dierre, Porta, KMT), and if you move, you can remove the lock and take it with you.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What happens when the batteries in a smart lock run out?
The lock notifies you of low battery status weeks in advance via audible signals, LEDs, and mobile app notifications. However, if the battery does become completely discharged:
- The locks are equipped with external emergency power contacts (e.g. a USB-C port for connecting a power bank).
- The door can be opened from the outside at any time with a traditional mechanical key.
Does the lock work during a power outage or Wi-Fi outage?
Yes! The smart lock is powered by its own, independent batteries or accumulators located in the housing. A power outage in the building does not affect its operation. Basic communication with the keypad or phone is via Bluetooth, so PIN codes, fingerprints, and phone access work seamlessly.
Is it possible to install a smart lock in Gerda or Dierre anti-burglary doors?
Yes! This is our daily practice in Italy. We use specialized modular inserts equipped with a gear (sprocket) or a cam, which work perfectly with multi-point slat mechanisms in burglar-resistant doors.
How long does a standard smart lock installation take?
A comprehensive service – including an audit, dismantling of the old cylinder, installation of a new certified cylinder, installation of the lock head, rotation calibration, and full application configuration and user training – usually takes from 45 to 90 minutes.
